On duty Private Roleplay
1. Arturo (Katha88)
2. Lukan (sapphiresquire) 3. Snake (corruptpudding)
This rp takes place right after objective three(declaration of war) and before objective four (war)
ArturoIs the Olde herd safe? Arturo thought about it while he was walking towards the meeting point, where he would meet up with Lukan. He was another knight, Arturo barely knew. He barely knew most of the herd to be honest, his social life was cut down to training an patrolling and once in a while he visited Obscura, to listen to her seeings. Usually he tried to visit the praying pools in the Olde city once a week. But again, was the herd safe? After the eastern land bridge broke it seemed so, it seemed like the Bachelors had no chance to come to the Isle of Olde and steal them their mares or worse. Who knew what they where up to now. The forbidden forest seemed to be too dangerous to cross, but right now it seemed like they didn't care much. Bachelors have been seen on the western land bridge, crossing the water right towards the forbidden forest. Would they even make it out alive? Many believed the predators were some sort of wall, they either kept out everything with a little sense or either ate everything that had no sense and came in anyway.
So Arturo had been assigned with Lukan to watch the borders of the forbidden forest to make sure no Bachelor would actually make it through. They would certainly not slip through their eyes, Arturo thought with determination. He flared his nostrils and lifted his head to breath in the scents around him to figure out if he could already smell someone, but he wouldn't even know how Lukan smelled. As he had just seen the younger stallion here and there on some gatherings, usually sticking to the white glowing Alabaster. He tried to avoid the arabian stallion mostly as he wasn't sure about him, and when Arturo wasn't sure about someone, he rather fled their presence than to get to know them better.
As he finally arrived at the meeting point, he lowered his neck and started to pluck some grass blades while he waited for Lukan to start their patrol.

Lukan || Stallion || Knight
For once, Lukan was actually happy to be on an assignment with another knight; he wouldn't outright admit it to anyone, but the forest unnerved him a great deal. The stories of beasts in the forest alone were enough to deter him from this place and combined with it's name he hesitated to come here at all. If anything unsavory did come out of it, he would push his fear aside and do his duty, but until then he kept a wary on the trees and one ear turned towards them listening for any sign of intruders. Although he didn't know much about Arturo, the other knight seemed like a good horse from what little Lukan did know. Like most of the herd, the other stallion was a bit of a stranger to him, a stranger to most horses it seemed. If either of them had been more social, they might have been good friends. At least we should get a long well enough. Lukan thought in relief.
A light breeze picked up a few strands of his mane, urging him forward with a quicker pace. It was likely Arturo was already waiting for him and the sooner he got there, the sooner they could be on their way home. Lukan cleared his throat as he trotted, catching a glimpse of a brown and white coat around the bend ahead. "Arturo?" He called out a bit louder than he thought was necessary, but being soft spoken to begin with made it hard to be heard at his usual volume. After a few more steps he was close enough to clearly see his companion enjoying a bit of grass; it almost made Lukan smile before he composed himself once more. "I'm here."

Snake
Three days. It had been three long, boring days and still he had found nothing. Not a trace of mares nor objects of even remote value had turned up in all of Snake's weary wanderings. As a scavenger it was his area of expertise when it came to finding and stealing and pillaging. The lack of material value he had retrieved for the herd was putting him out of sorts. A bit of adventure, at least, would be nice. Nothing interesting at all had happened in the last few days and already he was getting restless. He needed to get out a bit. Experience something new. If only for a short time. He mulled this over, a dangerous idea coming to surface. Since he hadn't been doing so great on his own isle, why not try another? He'd heard rumors of the wretched fire that had ravaged the land of the exiles, so the Olde island was the obvious choice. Beside, it was so much more fun to pillage his pompous neighbors more than anyone else. Those Olde ponies though they were so special, what with their unicorn blessings and magical prayer ponds. Peh.
Snake wasted little time, heading out for the Eastern-Olde land bridge at a gallop. No one seemed to notice his leave, so busy were they at grazing beneath the low boughs of the great, lone pine tree. He hadn't bothered to tell anyone of his little excursion for fear it might complicate matters. His leader could deny him the privilege or perhaps he would be sent with a bulky group. And right now, he just wanted to be alone, to prove to himself that he was still a rough and cunning scavenger who could handle whatever those aristocratic Olde's might throw at him.
Waves crashed on either side of the land bridge in thunderous cascades, spraying Snake's glossy black coat with salt and ocean water. His senses were exploding with the thrill of the vast, endless tides. Gulls and the sound of churning, frothing water filled his ears and the musky, fishy sent of the ocean wafted into his flared nostrils. The rushing wind felt great in his midnight black mane, whipping it around ferociously and quickening his heart with a thrill of wild excitement. It wouldn't be long before he reached enemy ground!
A forest awaited him on the other side of the land bridge, its tall, dark trees anything but welcoming. He was careful to avoid tripping over the gnarly roots of a particularly old oak, the forest floor around the tree freckled with golden-brown acorns. He wanted to make his journey through the forest quick, for he was wary of the unfamiliar sounds and smells that bombarded him. Its shadowy depths seemed to be filled with an ominous presence, almost intense enough that he found himself wondering if going with a group of bachelors might not have been such a bad idea after all. It was perhaps by sheer luck that the lone bachelor had managed to find himself once again at the edge of the forest, his journey only just beginning. Once he located the legendary ruins this island bore, he could pillage to his hearts content! As he broke through the thick foliage bordering the forests edge, he immediately sensed something was wrong. Eyes sharp with mistrust, he had the misfortune of sighting two equines of formidable stature some distance away. Looks like he had company.

OOC: I must have made an mistake, I just saw that there is actually no land bridge between the Isle of Olde and the East Isle. Is Snake a fit swimmer? I think we just keep on and pretend he swam to the landbridge part or something x3 ... so sorry ^^° Chevaline Map
Arturo waved his tail annoyed against his flanks. Insects where super busy around this time and bothering him big time. He stomped with his hind leg and kicked against his belly to get rid of the little pests. Of course he was tense as well. He didn't like the dark and tall tree lines that stood into the sky like giants, dangerously hiding what was beyond the dark curtain. He didn't even know WHAT was beyond, but that it was dangerously was certain. Foals grew up with bed time story's of the the forbidden forest and there must be a reason why this forest was named as it is today. Sometimes queer animal sounds echoed from far away, when he had been close to the forest as youngster and had ran back home as fast as his legs could have carried him. Stupid younglings they where back then, today they had a mission. Hoof beats, he pricked his ears and stopped munching on the grass while he listened to the sounds and saw a dark brown figure coming closer. When Lukan called out, he raised his head and watched his herd member approach and nodded politely when he was finally next to him. "Hello Lukan, I am glad you could make it. I am not sure if that individual that has been seen actually made it over the land bridge and into the forest, but it has been seen from far away. It's also possible that it's a loner who's looking for safety. I say we wait here and IF something should come out of the forest, we check on it." Arturo watched how his fellow knight would take his suggestion and with another whip of his tail he tried to remove another fly from his hind quarters. Lukan was younger and maybe less experienced as him, but he was not green and he had almost the same size and built. Both made a towering appearance as they stood there in their dark coats.
Arturo let his glance wander along the border of the forest. "Tell me Lukan, how do you feel about the forest. What shall we do, if a bachelor appears and runs back into it? We can't just hope he runs back and takes off that easily." Arturo turned his head back to Lukan and mustered his expression to tell what the stallion thought. "Let's hope the unicorns bless us and nothing will come out of this forest." As he turned his eyes back to the forest his muscles suddenly tensed, when he saw a black figure standing at the border of the forest. Uncertain he took one step forward, "Lukan... look...".

Lukan came to a pause, only just now relaxed enough in the company of the other knight to notice the bothersome insects buzzing around him, irritating his nose and eyes. Of course such pests would plague him when he needed to remain alert and vigilant. Part of him considered that he was being tested, made to prove himself in light of his wavering courage in the forests menacing shadow. Then again it seemed silly that something so small could bear so much significance, but he was not one to put such an idea aside lightly. With a light scowl pulling across his muzzle, the stallion shook his head, tossing his already wild mane into a frenzy to drive the insects away for a time, long enough for him to pay proper attention to Arturo as he spoke. The other knight was his superior at least in experience, which to Lukan made him the authority for now and therefore in charge of their mission.
"I..." He hesitated to speak, finding himself either too proud or too stubborn to admit the fear the forest instilled in him. But who could he confide such a thing in if not another knight? His mother was acutely aware of the fact of course, but mothers knew everything; it was impossible for her to miss something that had tormented her son as a foal, even more so than his near crippling shyness at the time. Alabaster had at least helped in easing one of the fears, but the snowy arabian could do next to nothing about this forest, except perhaps glow slightly in the darkness. "May I speak frankly?" Lukan asked, then didn't wait for an answer; he'd never asked permission to be honest before and suddenly didn't feel like waiting for it. Had the king or queen been present he may have held his tongue out of respect, but as circumstances were he had no qualms about simply continuing.
"This forest unnerves me. We don't really know what lives in there and as for what lies beyond it, even I don't want to venture a guess as to what is out there." The flow of words stopped when he ran out of things to say besides the fact that it simply scared him. If a Bachelor did make an appearance, it was hardly the worst thing that could make itself known here. It would certainly be preferred to some beast intent on making it's next meal out of some unfortunate horse. Lukan barely heard Arturo's direction, but followed the other stallions gaze until his own rested on the dark intruder. Speak it and it shall appear. He thought narrowing his eyes to blue slits at the stranger. He flicked one ear at his companion, wondering if the older horse recognized their unwelcome guest. "Bachelor?" The single word hopefully conveyed the full meaning of his question.

((Sorry I've taken a while to reply! Snake is currently getting a redo (he's to be the son of Bat-Sheeva... so age, history, and appearance are all getting changed)~ His personality will be pretty much the same though, otherwise it will be difficult for me to describe his appearance as I don't yet know what it it other than the same build (slim and tall). Sorry about the land bridge thing! I had thought plot description said it was before it broke XD oh well~ I'm sure he had a fine swim.)) Snake tilted his head, watching the two bulky figures with a mischievous gleam in his eyes. Their senses seemed to catch on to his intrusive presence and they both turned to look at him. He hesitated only a moment before diving back into the underbrush. He wasn’t afraid, no, but he wasn’t foolish either. With a suitable group he would enter into a fight with the duo without a second thought, but alone…he would rather avoid such confrontation. Two large stallions against his own slim physique was probably more than he could handle. The thoroughbred blood in his veins was boiling over as he sped through the dark wood, leaping over logs and evading the towering trees. He had rested a number of times on his journey through the forbidden forest after his long expedition here, but he was starting to wear down. He dove into an especially shadowy grove of trees for a short respite, listening intently for any sounds of pursuit.

As Arturo listened to Lukan, he nodded. Yes he thought just the same and many horses, him included, had been taught that the forbidden forest wasn't named like that out of some jolly mood. After Arturo had spotted the intruder he tried to get a glimpse of his facial markings, but he couldn't see it clearly enough if it had a X crossing his forehead. "I don't know..." Arturo started as he watched the lean figure at the forest, but as it spotted them and turned to vanish in the curtain of blackness, Arturo stomped with his hoof and let out a protesting snort. "It must be a Bachelor."
Uncertain he danced from one hoof to the other and jumped forward, to stop again. "We should follow him, but what if it's a trap? We shouldn't act headless now, we can't just simply race in there. But. We have to follow him." He glanced back at Lukan with furrowed brows. He knew it was dangerous, it could be a trap. What if there where other Bachelors behind the trees just waiting on them. He wasn't thinking about the beasts inside the forest, he was thinking about the beasts the Bachelors had.
He had to come up with a strategy, at least both weren't in light or shining colors and would be able to melt better into the darkness of the forest than others might. They could try to sneak in and to track down his imprint and scent and try to reach him as silently as they could possibly manage. If he was with a group they should turn back and get some backup, but if he would be alone, they surely could handle him.
Arturo turned around and faced Lukan, "Lukan I might have a plan. I am not the very best at tracking, but we shouldn't just follow him headless into the woods. Let's follow him calm and silently. We have to figure out if he's alone or with a group of Bachelors." He was certain, that they could face one horse by them selfs.

Although his initial reaction was to protest going into the forest at all, Lukan kept his mouth closed and simply nodded, peering through the trees in the direction the strange horse had come from. He didn't appear to be one that would put up much of a fight if it came to that, but his presence still felt sinister. "I agree we should follow... But he knows we're here. It could be a trap." Part of him wanted to think the Bachelors weren't smart enough for something like that, and yet the wiser part of him said to never underestimate a foe.
"We'll just have to be very careful, I suppose." The stallion mused out loud swishing his tail in his nervousness. Hopefully he could push it aside once they were in pursuit and his sense of duty would take over. "He's got enough of a head start." Lukan said slowly, then took the first step closer to the trees, halting and wincing as his hoof came down on a stick, the cracking sound echoing around them; it might as well have been thunder to Lukan's ears. He hesitated a few moments longer before taking another step, hoping that sound hadn't reached the intruder as well, let alone any other creatures that could be lurking nearby.

Snake, his dark appaloosa coat blending in with the sun dapples and mud streaks, half-dozed amid the trees of his dark grove. He had sped quite a distance from the Olde stallions and they didn't seem to be following, therefore he seized the chance to rest up should a later confrontation ensue. He yawned drowsily, reveling in the quiet of the damp, eerie forest. Squeeee! Wait? What was that? Whooooo! Sqwaaaa! his ears perked, swiveling frantically as though they had a life of their own. Why, this forest was simply filled with a conglomeration of odd creatures! He could hear their foreign cries echoing through the dim depths of the wood. His nostrils flared to breath in any recognizably hostile scents and his yellow eyes blazed, scanning the shady grove for any sign of movement. He had walked right out of one predicament and into another! The forest hadn't seemed all that bad in his initial travels, the occasional strange bird call or chilling feeling would pass over his senses, but it most certainly hadn't been so bad as this! Why was he noticing it only now? He had the strangest thought...as though perhaps...the forest and its inhabitants had been...watching him as he entered? Aware he was a stranger? Spied on his movements to see what he would do? Now that it was through looking, it had reverted back to its true nature? BUT NO! That couldn't possibly be! It was just a forest after all... nothing special there! After all, the eastern Isle didn't have much for forests... maybe he just didn't understand them all that well? But even this...strangeness... seemed excessive he thought as he glanced around. He wandered captiously from his hiding place, searching the ground for any sign of edible foliage. There wasn't much for grass due to the thick, interlocking tangle of branches ahead, blocking out all the sun. He mad due, however, and even found a small blueberry bush whose fruit he quickly devoured. Hmmm...what was he to do? He failed to see or hear those Olde stallions for some time now. Maybe he should head back and try again to reach the Olde City? He started heading back to the place he had seen those guards. Perhaps he might be able to squirt around them and exit the forest at a different place if they failed to notice him the second time?

He stared seriously into the light blue eyes of Lukan. "Yes it could be a trap, I had the same thought. We have to be very alert at all time. We don't know how many hide behind the trees and we don't know what else is waiting for us. Keep your senses at alert." Arturo felt a cold shiver crawling down his spine, even through he was a brave warrior, he felt anxious about what was to come. He felt his partner, he was just as uneasy as him, both flicked their ears nervously.
As Lukan mentioned, that they could now follow their opponent, he also stepped forward. With long strides he moved towards the line of trees and bushes, trying to figure out where the Bachelor had slipped in. He flared his nostrils to get a taste of the strange horse, while his senses where working as hard as they could, Lukan stepped on a stick. Arturo tensed and turned his head back to his partner. "Be careful brother, we have to be at our best now. Come here and help me to find his track, some marks on the ground." Arturo said seriously, he turned back and searched the ground for hoof prints, still inhaling the scents around the area. Stange smells crept up his nose, the forest smelled moist and of rotten leaves and grass. The trees were tall and let only little patches of sun through their thick layers of branches, leaves and needles. Suddenly Arturo spotted a hoof print and scarred ground. He stepped through a thick bush, that clawed into his flanks and scraped along his skin. It tangled in his tail hair and Arturo angrily swished his tail until he was freed again, but the bush kept some souvenirs of his tail hair. Arturo breathed in deeply the scent of the forest, his eyes slightly blinded by the sudden darkness, he pressed his nostrils down on the ground, excessively sniffing.
Some birds screeched out of the sudden and Arturo ripped up his head and jumped. He stared back to Lukan and raised a brow frowning. Stupid birds... He was way too tense not to jump at such a sound, they were still horses and still flight animals, their senses now where on flight modus, even through they trained years to get rid of their instincts to be able to work well in battles and on patrols. He sighed and stepped carefully forward, pricking his ears again, watching his step.

Lukan could only nod his head as he stepped forward again, eyeing the offending twig now snapped in half and splintered from his weight, hoping it would be the last to perish under his hooves during their pursuit. Then again, a trail of trampled sticks would have made their job easier in tracking the Bachelor stallion, but he didn't think the horse would have been so careless as that. The Moriesian tossed his mane, now trying to figure out a way around the bush that had practically grabbed Arturo; such foliage was a nightmare to a horse like him, having seen his own father stuck for nearly an hour when a taller specimen has tangled in his tail and lower parts of his mane so horribly the bush had to be dug up by its roots before he could be freed - not to mention the remnants that had been left in the feathering around his hooves. Such an encounter would leave him itchy for days. That alone made up his mind as he sprinted the next few steps, leaping over the forest's border of undergrowth rather than forcing his way through like his companion, hoping his landing had been light enough not to cause much noise.
He was only allowed to relax for a moment as he took the first step to follow Arturo, the bird sound making him suddenly edgy, a snort of mixed fear and irritation escaping his nostrils as they flared in surprise. With a great deal of effort, Lukan swallowed hard and cleared his throat, walking closer to Arturo. "Did you find the trail?" He asked quietly, his voice just above a whisper.

"GET OFF!" hollered Snake as he cow hopped and bucked, the whites of his eyes flashing wildly in the dim light of the wood. He stopped, regaining his senses for a moment. The stallion gulped in air, breathing hard. His sides were heaving and beaded with sweat. He whipped his head around to stare at the spiny, claw like branches that had brushed against his dappled flank. He, too, was having quite the encounter with shrubbery. "Its just a tree....get ahold of yourself!" he hissed, embarrassed and shaken. He eyed his surrounding warily, jumping as a strange birdcall resounded eerily into the endless, dark wood. The forest was becoming to much...to much for him to handle. The darkness...the trees...it all seemed to be closing in on him! "NO! LET ME OUT! LET ME GO!" He shouted, his moment of awareness fleeting. He now crashed through the underbrush, unaware of the noise and obvious trail he was making. He could hear them, (or so he thought) all the creatures of the forest, snarling and thrashing behind him, ready to tear him to shreds! Even the trees were against him! They kept swerving in his way and grabbing him with their snarly twig-like fingers. He was to terrified to scream, galloping with all his might to escape the nightmares that chased him. He hardly noticed as he stamped right between the two Olde stallions from earlier. Finally, FINALLY, Snake broke free from the entanglement of the wood, sunlight beating down onto his dappled hide and blinding him momentarily. He gulped for air, reveling in the openness that spread out before him. He stood at the bottom of a low rise, grassy and patched with snow. Snow. He'd heard of it.... but the Eastern Isle never had snow. This place...this whole island was wrong. He had never seen a forest either. How did these Olde horses handle it all here!!?? He totted unsteadily up the hill, relieved by the greater expanse of fields and meadows now visible. A sense of alarm now pricked his mind, and he swiveled his head to look over his shoulder at the terrible forest. He began to recall the stallions...he'd run right past them! (Sorry for long awaited reply! I had to finish redoing Snake! )

Sniffing, Arturo made his way slowly along the track the Bachelor stallion had taken. He had found the trail indeed, he never had thought it possible, he had sucked at tracking his whole life, it must have been pure luck or the anxiety that was driving his senses to best performance. As they were silently sneaking around bushes and trees, watching their hooves, a sudden shouting echoed from farther away through the forest. He ripped up his head, pricking his ears to the sound. His ears flicked nervously back to Lukan and forth again to the direction of the shouting he just had heard. "Lukan... is this our Bachelor?" At first he thought himself lucky, the fool had gotten into trouble, but a sudden chill made him shiver. What if they where in danger as well?
Cracking sticks, rustling and beating of hooves pounding into the ground where echoing toward the two Olde stallions and sound was getting closer. Arturo hesitated, what if the Bachelor was now going to attack? Did it sound like more than just one horse? He pricked his ears again, listening close and it was a three time beat, just one. One horse, so he was alone. Was he attacking now? Arturo tossed his head as he suddenly spotted the dark horse with the white blanket racing towards them. He backed away some steps, his ears flipping backwards and his jaw tensed. He was ready to tear this horses throat out if he would attack them with such a brutal force. He bared his teeth and leveled his weight on all four legs as the spotted horse thundered through their line and he snapped and jumped into his direction. The bachelor had been too fast and a stink of fear clung on him. Irritated Arturo gaped into the direction, the Bachelor had fled, he looked over to Lukan with an puzzled expression. What on earth had just happened? Was something following him? Quickly Arturo looked behind his back, but he could hear nor see anything. What was going on here?
Arturo snorted furious and pawed the soft and moss covered ground, making the little patches fly around his legs. He tossed his head several times and pinned his ears back again. He then turned towards Lukan. "Quick now, we have to follow him!" Arturo shouted at him and jumped off into a gallop, to follow the intruder. What was wrong with this horse, and why had he been in such fear? Arturo wasn't the most fast horse, but he was fast on short distances, the Quarter Horse heritage showed as his muscles worked under his skin. He raced around the trees and bushes and jumped over the hedge that had just grabbed him minutes before. Breathing in and out with every gallop stride he did, he followed the white blanket that was running some leagues before him. He allowed himself a quick glance towards Lukan, when he turned his eyes back towards the Bachelor, he had stopped quickly at the bottom of the little hill. The grass was covered by early snow, slightly and the snow was wet and squishy. As his hooves pounded into the ground, the slosh mixture of soil, grass and a little bit of snow was flying around him, staining his dark legs and belly with light brown mud.

Lukan lifted his head, staring through the trees ahead of them, the sound of rapid hoofbeats thundering against the ground also reaching his ears. Unless another horse had so foolishly entered this forest, it had to be the Bachelor they were prusuing and so he nodded, glancing at Arturo as he moved forward to stand beside him rather than behind, preparing for an attack. He barely had time to register surprise as the Bachelor grew closer at a shocking speed, whipping past the the knights and caused Lukan's mane ro billow to one side in the draft he created. Another moment passed and he was gone, still racing in the same direction, away from the forest. Lukan stood still, shocked briefly until his eyes widened- he'd let the Bachelor slip right past him! Only a step or two behind Arturo, the stallion burst into a run, as fast as he could go between the trees and through thr undergrowth until they were once again out in the open air, allowing his stride to fall into an all out gallop. Their query was not far ahead, but Lukan feared losing track of him all the same; he was only one horse, but there was no telling how much havoc a Bachelor stallion could unleash on the Olde herd's home.
As focused as he was on the retreating stallion, Lukan managed to lose his footing for a few steps, sliding through the soaking grass and earning himself a tangled tail full of mud clods. Had he not been in pursuit, it would have annoyed and quite possibly embarrassed him, but instead he only picked up his feet faster, wanting to finally find out what this strange horse was up too; everything else could be worried about later.

Snake cringed. His theory was being proven correct. There they were! The faint, shadowy silhouettes of the guard stallion stampeding through the forest in hot pursuit sent anger and apprehension coursing through his veins. He had to get out of here! His spotted hide was darkened with sweat and his ears were pinned back nervously. He couldn't let them catch him! They were sure to overpower him. His advantage lay in stamina and speed, not brute force. Nostrils flared and struggling to fill his lungs with enough oxygen, the tired stallion cantered down the slippery, snow-patched slope and in the direction he hoped the Olde city would be. He began to wonder if it had really been worth all this trouble... to come to an unfamiliar island all alone and unprepared. Of course it had been stupid, but he would need to improvise! To make the best of his situation. He'd already made his choice, it was time to finish it and reap the rewards. Maybe he could even manage to steal from the guards chasing him?
