Io | Exile | Scout ________________________________________________
The mare listened quite intently as he answered her question. She smiled to herself, having assumed correctly that he was indeed a guard. He sure acted like one. "It's not so unbelievable." She giggled. "I know of quite a small mare that shares that same rank. And what she lacks in size she makes up for in courage and heart."
But suddenly Io's attitude changed and her smile disappeared when she took notice of Salvatore's actions. But a faint scent hit her nose, and it was all too familiar...She'd recognize that scent anywhere, and it made something inside her snap.
"...is that a grass beast?" There was something dark that lingered in her voice, and there was anger clearly lit in her red eyes. I will kill that wretched thing. She cursed in her thoughts.
With her eyes narrowed she took a step toward it. "How...vulnerable..."

Salavtore | Exile | Guard
With a very subtle nod, Salvatore confirmed to Io that it was indeed a Grass Beast. Though its solitude continued to puzzle him, and the Beasty looked just as confused as he was. It appeared to be in a state of panic, nonetheless, and it hadn't even taken notice at the equine duo until it heard the mare speak. With a start, the Grass Beast turned a pair of glowing green eyes in their direction. It seemed to be aware that it was vulnerable, having immediately tucked a bushy tail between rear legs while slowly lowering its head. Mockingly, the dunalino stallion pinned his ears and extended his head toward the Beasty with a snarl, pawing the Earth with a front hoof as if he were about to charge. The creature slowly began to retreat into its bush, without releasing eye contact as if he would be eaten alive if he looked away.
Almost instantaneously, the stallion lunged toward the smaller beast in another mocking attempt to scare it off. He couldn't help but laugh at the yelp it let out before scurrying away. It was hilarious how these creatures needed a dozen back up, otherwise they would go absolute bonkers with any slight threat. "Pathetic little vermin," Salvatore retorted with a sly laugh and a swish of his long blonde tail before turning his back to retreat to his companion.

Io | Exile | Scout ________________________________________________ As the small predator disappeared into the brush Io's attention switched from it to the distance they had left to reach their herd. This island haunted her with so many memories, and now, along with the slowly setting sun, it seemed as though her mood was setting along with it.
Her tail flicked from side to side as they walked on, as did her ears whenever a small sound caught her momentary attention. But once the herd came into sight she released a breath as if she had been holding it in the entire time. The sight of the herd didn't make her heart swell like she always expected it to, instead it pricked her heart with sadness instead. There were several faces that she recognized from casual and even accidental encounters, but there were also faces that she no longer saw anymore...
Io was silent as she slowed to a stop, her sad eyes searching through the different horses of their herd. But a warm and familiar voice quickly stole her attention.
"Io!"
She turned her head towards the voice and quickly trotted forward when she recognized who it was. "Mother..!" The two mares met in an affectionate embrace, and Io couldn't help but flatten her ears in embarrassment as she glanced over at Salvatore while her mother fussed over her injuries. "Mother...I'm not a little filly anymore."
"You said you wouldn't be fighting!" Flora continued despite Io's protests. "Just look at your beautiful coat!" She said with a gasp before her demeanor changed from horrified to completely angry. "Who did this to you?! I swear by the unicorns I will tear them apar-"
"Mother!" Io quickly silenced her, nodding her head over to Salvatore, not forgetting about him so easily. "Mom, this is Salvatore. I would've never made it home without him." She said with a gentle smile.

Salvatore | Exile | Guard
The guard couldn't stop himself from keeping his azure eyes on the mare he walked beside. Hundreds of thoughts raced through his mind - and while that was the normal occurrence, this time all thoughts were about Io. Salvatore was so distracted, he didn't even take notice of the herd that drew in the horizon. There were so many things he wanted to say, but his thoughts were caught short by an unfamiliar voice that shouted his mare's name.
He immediately halted at the sound and looked ahead. The mare was certainly not one Salvatore had seen before, yet she seemed to know Io on a personal level, and that relaxed him. A smile stole his face as he heard Io's response. Her mother... how could I not have known? Blue eyes danced from one mare to another, but Salvatore couldn't help but notice Io hardly looked like her. Regardless, he kept his distance and allowed the two to reconcile, not bringing his attention away from their words. Io's mother sounded genuinely concerned for her, and with her emotion Salvatore began to miss his mother's innocent pep talks, regardless of the fact that it seemed to bring the pale mare a sort of discomfort.
Salvatore's ears pricked forward when he heard Io mention his name. He stepped forward, his chin pulled to his chest in a form of respect. "My lady, it brings me the utmost pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said boldly, slowly lifting his head. "May I enlighten you, your daughter has more fight in you than I have ever seen in a mare before. You should be proud," he said coolly, flashing a charming grin.

Io | Exile | Scout ________________________________________________ The older mare's ears perked up at the sound of the guard's voice. Unlike her daughter, Flora was social with the herd, and although she may not have known them all by name, she recognized them nonetheless. The chestnut returned a polite smile to Salvatore before her loving gaze rested on Io, who was trying to hide her blushing face. "Thank you for your kind words. I am proud of her." But Flora hadn't forgotten to give her gratitude to the young guard. "But thank you for bringing her back to me." She flicked Io's flank with the tip of her tail. "Trouble seems to follow this one."
Io smiled and rolled her eyes, her ears lightly pressed against her head in embarrassment.
"Now," Flora's gaze solely rested on her daughter. "We need to do something about those injuries of yours, don't stay out too late."
The pale young scout watched her mother trot off towards a small group of mares who greeted her with friendly smiles. It wasn't difficult to see that both mother and daughter were complete opposites, both in personality and appearances. Io automatically felt the need to explain those reasons to Salvatore, in case he was wondering, most horses did. But instead of saying anything she simply looked over at him, her previously flattened ears flicking forward, giving her a rather innocent looking face.

Salvatore | Exile | Guard
The graceful stallion bowed his head to Io's mother once more as she spoke, nodding slightly as she thanked him. "Indeed it does, but I will do my absolute best to prevent any harm from here on out. It is my job, after all." Salvatore shot an almost seductive look toward Io as he finished speaking - a look only she could see - and followed it with a charming wink. His outward expressions had obvious meaning, but the thoughts that swarmed his brain remained concealed. He could not help but notice how Io and her mother hardly looked alike, if at all. And all at once it came across him that Salvatore really did not know this mare at all, but was infatuated with her nonetheless.
But why her? The stallion still struggled to pinpoint the exact moment in which she won him over, and it was a struggle to think of what it was exactly about her he craved. He raised his head to meet her height as he watched her look over at him with innocent looking eyes. Oh dear... she sure was beautiful. The way her hair fell beside her face, and the way her eyes roared like two orange flames... but he quickly snapped out of his trance. With a quick shake of his head he blinked at her and smiled gently, pinning his ears in submission. "Well... don't stay out too late, huh? The sun will be setting soon, do you propose we go exploring before bed time?" He winked at her once more in a playful manner, giving her a toothy grin.

Io | Exile | Scout ________________________________________________ There was definitely something about this stallion that made Io smile. It was almost an automatic reaction at this point, despite not having known him for very long. His blue eyes and his handsome face lured her in like a moth to a warm flame. And those looks that he flashed at her. She wouldn't be surprised if her face remained red forever due to how much she blushed around him! He was simply too much!
Io dipped her head before raising her chin to feel the cool evening breeze, letting it flick the loose strands of her mane against her neck. At Salvatore's proposal her head turned towards him, and her ears followed as they perked forward. "How could I refuse such a tempting offer?" She said with a gentle giggle and smile. "It's also easier to see the stars once the sun has set..." She added in a soft whisper, closing her eyes for a moment at the thought.

Salvatore | Exile | Guard
Great Compromiser, this mare made the blonde stallion's ego fire through the roof. There was nothing that made Salvatore feel more proud than making a mare blush, and this mare of all... good heavens. Seeing her blush made him do the exact same. Io made his heart swell up until it consumed his whole body, and Salvatore had a feeling that it would be come a regular occurrence. And little did the Marwari mind.
"A beautiful sight that would be, there is little doubt in my mind." He paused briefly. "I cannot doubt any words that you speak, dear one. The stars are quite a sight to behold, but even under this stellar canopy, the stars in your eyes are all that I see." The blonde male brought his upward gaze down to the shorter mare, ears pinned in submission. He smiled at her gently, and nuzzled the scar on her pale face. Right then and there he knew he loved her, even only knowing her for hours. These feelings crashed into him like a wave, but he wisely bit his tongue feeling nothing but foolish. Yet still, he couldn't help imagining a future with her. Although Io already had a past with another, and he knew he couldn't possibly replace that, he wanted nothing more than to give her the world.
