The black mule shook her mane laying on the grassy field enjoying the weather. It was nice and sunny out, she loved the way the bees hummed visiting the flowers. Her hooves dug lightly on the ground as she shifted from one side to the other. She had just turned 17 not that long ago, the young mare was happy to be appointed to her ranking, despite knowing what was ahead for her. She was just so glad to be out and about without any chores...not of yet at least. Ebony flickered her ears before getting up to stretch. She was located just outside of the group of mares nearby. She felt as giddy as a foal today. Rearing up a bit before running around playfully to get her adrenaline going.

Niya | Slave | Bachelor
The tall appaloosa mare was enjoying the sun at the moment, and even more she was enjoying the peace and quiet. It was times like these, when there was nothing much going on, that she loved the most. As the golden rays warmed her spotted back and be bees hummed around her she closed her eyes and let herself escape to her old home. She was a foal again, picking flowers with her mother. She frolicked and leaped around like gravity couldn't hold her down. A joyful smile tugged at her lips as the memories played before her. Some day she would return. Some day they'd all be rescued by the unicorns. They could have a normal life with a family and loved ones all around them. Some day - she was sure.
Her curved ears flicked when she heard the sound of running hooves tapping about not too far off. Emerald green eyes blinked open and she raised her dainty head to watch the young mule frolic in the fields. It seemed she was enjoying the warm day as well. Niya grinned. Just watching her brought the playful child who had just been playing in her memories to return. With a quiet little giggle of excitement the champagne mare picked up into a graceful canter. Gradually she built up speed until she sped by the younger mare. "Race you to that tree!" She called as she gave a toss of her head, sending her long wavy mocha mane to dance about behind her as she galloped to her destination.

Snake II Scavenger II Bachelor
Snake had been given a break today and seeing as he hadn’t anything better to do the appaloosa stallion chose to spend it ambling in fair proximity to the herd, enjoying the nice weather with an indifferent expression. He paused at a large, bushy hedge, its delectable emerald leaves tempting him to take a nibble. A number of dragonflies buzzed nearby, but he ignored them, intent on his afternoon snack. The sound of hooves and giggles caught his attention mid-chew and the young equine followed the sound to the other side of his concealing flora, spotting two mares racing through a valley. After a moment his memory registered the black mule. It was Ebony. He wouldn’t admit it aloud, not to save his life, but he found her to be…tolerable. Without a second glance at his snack, he swallowed his mouthful and then called out, his voice uncharacteristically loud so as to cross the distance necessary to the mares’ ears. “You call that racing?” he hollered. The stallion pushed off from the earth, his long, thoroughbred’s legs eating up the ground as he galloped toward the duo.

Ebony/Slave/Bachelor
The mule mare was hopping along happily kicking up some grass giggling to herself. However she didn't expect to have company come to her playful moment. Another mare ran up a lot faster than she was. It was like..oh yes..she was racing! "Alright!" she laughed catching up to Niya bucking her back legs in the air as she tried to gain speed. Her dainty legs were giving such stride that were as graceful as a clam hacking up a pearl But she was having too much fun to realize that. She shook her curly manes as her beads making clunky sound hitting against each other. Despite her clumsy trot, she was too much into the moment with her mare friend to worry about some things. "The tree! The tree!" she giggled before hearing another voice. She turned her head around...Snake?! It was that one stallion! But..he wasn't normally around here....as far as she can backtrack. But she replied back to the stallion as he caught up "Yes! To the tree! To the tree!" she smiled brightly. The tree grew closer and closer, finding herself in-between Niya and Snake.

Niya | Slave | Bachelor
The champagne mare's feathered legs lifted high in a flashy and graceful show as she ran. When the smaller mare accepted her race and began to run along side of her she lowered her head and stretched out her neck as she lengthened her stride. Her long legs reached out with each step, powerfully pulling the ground underneath her. Her long silvery tail was held high as it flagged behind her, dancing in the breeze of her speed. A joyful laughter sung from her throat, lifted by the excitement and thrill of the run. For that moment she was a foal again without a care in the world, just enjoying life. She eyed the tree with determination as she made a bee-line for it.
It was then that her curved ears heard the loud call. Looking back she saw the appaloosa stallion galloping toward them on long legs built for speed surpassing her own. For a moment she was struck by fear, worried that they would be scolded for whatever silly reason. Ebony's cheerful reply calmed her nerves though. She seemed to at least recognize the stallion, more so than Niya herself did, and she had no concerns about his approach. She gave a lighthearted smile as Ebony announced their destination to the new contestant in the race. Tossing aside any concerns or worries Niya gave her own attention back to the determined finish line of their playful summer race. She didn't expect she could win against someone built to run like the other appaloosa, but with the head start she already had, she hoped maybe she had a chance.

Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor
Years of training that involved the chasing down and capturing of mares had physically prepared Snake to run fast over long distances. The two mares had quite a head start, but he made up the distance quickly. He held back, however, thinking it would be more fun to drag it out. His dark ears twitched at the sound of Ebony's voice. The tree? He stared straight ahead at a lone conifer rising from the tall grasses of the meadow. So that was their goal! He stretched out his neck and lengthened his strides, finally breaking even with the other two equines. He kept up a steady gallop alongside Ebony, slowing a little so as not to surpass her. His bright yellow eyes glanced away from his path to graze the figure of the other mare as she galloped on the mule's other side, her identity unknown to him. As a scavenger his job led him away from the herd most of the time and sometimes to other islands. He wasn't exactly acquainted with all his own herd mates. "Who's that?" he asked the dark mule mare, shouting to keep the wind from tearing away his words.

Ebony/Slave/Bachelor
Ebony panted heavily as she kept going. Her dainty legs couldn't catch up to the appaloosa in front of her but she didn't mind. It was the fun of the game that counted. Her flower swaying to the wind breaking as the stallion reached to her side. She kept forgetting how big he was next to her. Well...she rarely got to see him anyways. "Oh thats....um...well..Niya ^^...thats right thats Niya..!" she could only remember so many names in the brood herd. Didn't get close to most of them but overheard what they were called most of the time. "I'm getting there I'm getting there!" Ebony laughed getting closer to the tree.

Niya | Slave | Bachelor
The tree was getting closer, so close she could see the details of the bark on it's surface. She was almost there and so far she was ahead, though she knew that was only because the stallion was holding back at the moment to speak to the mule mare. She didn't bother trying to hear their words over the wind that rushed past her ears. She was too busy focusing on getting to that tree before the others. She might not have been the most competitive or spirited horse in the herd, but that didn't mean she didn't like to work hard toward success. She wasn't made for speed, the larger percentage of the breeds in her were made for stamina. Still, she had good long sturdy legs that offered to do their best to get her to that tree before the others did. Daring to take a peek she tilted her head enough that she could see the two horses she raced against with the corner of her right eye. She only looked long enough to see they were really not all that far behind her. Realizing she'd need to actually put in an effort in case the stallion decided to actually start racing soon, she thrust her head forward, her nose stretched out as if she were trying to reach out and grab the tree not too far in the distance now.

Dawne | Exile Foal
The young filly had wandered away from mom and dad and her friends. Hearing the ruckus, the laughter and merry shouts. The filly's blue eyes brightened and she trotted over a rise in the field land. There, a trio of horses were galloping about and smiling. Dawne hopped up immediately and began to trot towards them, then stopped finding it a little less scarier just watching rather than racing the taller horses.
She curled up and waited to see if they might come back so she could play with them too.

Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor
Returning his attention back to the race, Snake was surprised to see the other appaloosa...Niya...had surpassed him and Ebony by a reasonable amount. He flashed a wickedly jovial grin and dashed ahead, his much smaller friend nearly forgotten as he raced to catch up to the pale grey mare. No way would a brood beat him! His long dappled legs extended and retracted, his striped hooves hardly touching the ground as he flew closer to the tree...but...no! He muffled a cry of surprise as a rabbit dashed inches from his fore hooves and nearly sent him tumbling. To refrain from all out face planting, the spotted equine did something of a cow hop to one side and his hooves skidded in the dirt, desperately trying to slow him down. Panting and a fairly surprised, Snake managed to recover long enough from his mini excursion to look up and see Niya approach the tree. There was no way he could beat her from where he stood now. He snorted in discontent, but shook out his coat and cantered to the tree. He would, at least, finish the race.

Niya | Slave | Bachelor
Nine... Eight... Seven... Niya counted down her long strides until she reached the tree. Six... It didn't seem possible she would win, but there was no one beside her. Five... Still no one. Four... So close to the tree. Three... Where were the others anyways? Two... Don't look back now. One... THERE! Niya flew past the tree and then put on the breaks, tucking her hind legs underneath her she did a sort of bouncy sliding stop. Once she'd regained control of her speed she spun around to look behind her and see how close the others were. Just as she looked the spotted stallion who had joined in the mid of their game made it to the tree. Wow, that was close. Niya thought as she panted heavily to regain her breath. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was in her head, but she felt great. Who would have known a good run could make you feel so amazing? She would have to make a note to thank the young mule. At the moment though her mind was on the stallion. She wasn't aware of his name, nor even his rank, but it was obvious he was one born and raised in the herd. Perhaps she should have put more thought into this before winning the race. Would he be angered that he had lost - to a mare no less? They were known for being quite proud here. She lowered her head some, just to be sure as she braced herself for any scolding that might follow.

Ebony hurried as fast aas her legs could carry her as she reached the checkpoint shortly after Snake did. "Whoohoo! Niya wins Niya wins ^^" of Course he little mind at the moment didn't cross ever that she could get scolded for this. Normally she was super cautious. But today she was trying to let loose, at least for the moment. "That was so great Niya!..you outran Sir Snake^^.." She kept herself a fair distance from the two. Her mule nose picked something quite familiar to her as she turned her head. What was that form? It was small...grass beast?...NO...Her head tilted as she slowly ventured off to Dawne's direction. "Hello?..." She trotted to the filly.

"Hiya there!" The filly beamed brightly, "that looked so cool, that race you all did!" She bubbled with delight smiling at the dark mule. She galloped and fell, demonstrating the race but then failing at the end. "Oops, sorry. You all didn't fall like that!" She looked up, blue eyes dazzling like diamonds. "You're really pretty, miss. I like your flower." Said Dawne in adoration of the young mule. "What's your name? And theirs?"

Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor Snake didn’t mind terribly that the appaloosa mare had outrun him, he was a bit embarrassed at most, but he knew how to keep his cool unlike some stallion of the herd. It wasn’t like she was rubbing it in or anyone besides the three of them had witnessed his loss. Besides, it was the rabbit’s fault he’d been held up. He snorted a congratulation to Niya, amused by Ebony’s cheering. He’d hardly had time enough to catch his breath before Ebony began wandering off. He took the moment to face the other brood, about to say something when… “Hiya there!” A young, bubbly voice pierced the peaceful afternoon air as a foal made her presence known. Snake choked on whatever he’d been about to say and turned his head to stare with wide, yellow eyes at the little filly now jabbering away to Ebony. Surprised by the sudden appearance of the newcomer, he trailed after the dark mule, peering over her shoulder at the tiny creature. He couldn't say whether he was annoyed by foals or not. He had absolutely no experience with them. Of course, he'd overheard other stallions remark upon their annoying tendencies, but he'd yet to witness such behavior.

Ebony's ears stood right up "Oh my goodness..." trotting over to her. Maternal instinct kicked in with the foal falling. Oh ...good...she was alright. "OH...thank you darling ^^..you're so sweet..I am Ebony..a pleasure ot make you acquaintance little one...That over there is Niya and Sir Snake...oh this flower?...I love it too ^^ it was a brithday present.." Oh...Snake. She knew what most of the males did with newcomers. The mule felt breathing over her shoulders as the male made presence. "Eh...S-Sir snake 0//0;..." she moved over making a protective barrier between them. Her ears and head down presenting submission to the scavenger"...please don't hurt her Sir...shes just a filly...please...don't tell the other bachelors...she means no harm..." Certainly a newcomer..an outsider of the herd was very venerable to the other males.
